Abstract:
Background: Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a chronic functional gastrointestinal disorder that impairs quality of life. Conventional treatment often provides partial relief. Integrative functional medicine approaches targeting gut microbiome balance, dietary triggers, and mucosal regeneration may offer additional benefits.
Case Presentation: A 31-year-old male from rural Bangladesh presented with a 2-year history of IBS-C, chronic indigestion, incomplete evacuation, and inability to gain weight.
Intervention: A structured protocol was applied including dietary modification (low-FODMAP, elimination of triggers, fiber diversity), targeted supplementation (probiotics, omega-3, glutamine, micronutrients), regenerative therapy (acupuncture, ozone therapy, HBOT, coffee enema), and lifestyle optimization.
Outcome: Symptomatic improvement began after one month. By three months, the patient achieved complete resolution of constipation, normalized bowel habits, improved digestion, better sleep, increased energy, and weight gain (+4 kg).
Conclusion: This case highlights the potential effectiveness of a functional medicine model integrating diet, supplementation, lifestyle, and regenerative therapy in IBS management.
